She didn't know why they chose to roam the stairwells when there were other perfectly suitable locations to meet and discuss. All it did was make things harder on people like her. She pulled her cardigan closer to her body, feeling the breeze through a vent as she pulled open the door of the library's second floor. Her brown eyes scanned the expansive room quickly as she walked in silently. There were a few people sprinkled amongst the hundreds upon hundreds of books, but not too many. Good. She made her way back towards her favorite section. Despite being here for barely a week, Erin had already acquainted herself with the library and its three floors. Yes, even the restricted section. She had pulled out the "I'm new here" card when she was caught browsing the books on her second day, and the librarian had shook his head and escorted her up to the room she was currently in. It was then that she had found the corner with all of the renaissance literature. She wasn't sure what it was about those texts that intrigued her so much. Just studying about that period made her just a little bit giddy. Maybe it was the thought of chivalry and knights in shining armor. Maybe she liked to think that it actually was possible for a man to be worthy of a lady. Dropping her bag onto the carpeted floor, she ran her fingers across the spines of the books that were haphazardly towered around her. Her silver nails clicked over a leather bound book that looked like it was a movie prop. Sliding it out like she was playing Jenga, she opened the title-less cover to the first page. The Study of Castle Architecture: 1460-1520. Sure, why not. She sat down and settled herself against a wall, propping the book up on her knees. Turning the page, she saw a well done sketch of a castle. The caption simply read Aquitane. The name sounded familiar. As she paged through the older book, she thought it was ironic how she was now titled a "soldier", a soldier who was reading about soldiers of the past. She smirked to herself, reading about the designing of turrets and drawbridges and such that were trademarks of the idyllic castle. Wouldn't it be nice to live back then, when even low class women had their champions? To see men parading around on tall, muscular horses that carried themselves with a prideful air would just be so contradictory to what Erin knew. Maybe someday she'd find her knight, but for now she wanted to distract herself from this strange school she now was a part of. 473 words, outfit here, tagged for anyone |
