Effy walked with a certain stiffness as she made her way down towards the fountain. Her hair was still wet from the shower she had just hand, her skin tone warm looking after having just pushed her self for a few hours practicing. There was a couple moves that had been taught to them the other day and Effy hadnt quite gotten them to perfection yet. Usually when this happened she took as much time as possible during class when time was permitted as well as outside of classes to perfect anything she was having troubles with.
Effy didnt like being told she couldnt do something nor did she like to be looked down upon for any kind of short comings so she always pushed herself 120% until everything was perfect... or better then perfect. She was second in command of the cobras and to her that meant she had no room for being okay or poor at something. She needed to be the best or equal to the best, usually she opted for the best.
Effys long brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail, all pieces in place non straying or looking as though she haphazardly threw it up. Her clothes didnt have a wrinkle in them. She resembled quite the pristine image. In her hand she carried a small brown paper bag which she held tightly and close to her.
Effy didnt exactly throw off a welcoming vibe, then again she didnt look like she was about to bite your head off if you approached her. In fact.. effy didnt really project anything. She looked stoic and blank. Her eyes didnt even give away anything of what she could be thinking or feeling. They usually just looked at you without anything. Her tone barely held any inflection to it as well. A lot of the times it threw people off unsure how to handle her, talk to her, approach her, so either they made quick excuse to go or they didnt try at all. Effy didnt pay any mind to this, she wasnt here to make huge amounts of friends and gossip about whatever was going on. She was here to do what she had to do and to help her team be the best at it.
Finding a good spot along the fountain she ran her hand over the surface and then took a seat. she sat with her legs together and back straight turned just slightly so she could use surface next to her as a table, setting her paper bag down and pulling out a strawberry low fat yogurt. She pulled the top off and then reached inside pulling out the plastic spoon she had brought to scrape the yogurt that had been left on the aluminum lid, into the plastic cup. Once that was done she tossed the lid into the bag and then pulled out her bottle of water.
Effy honestly loved the vigorous work outs they had with these moves and she kind of used it as her exercise when she wasnt in class. It helped her keep her mind from bottling up so much it exploded. That would not be good. Effy turned then taking in the scene around her as she casually ate her yogurt, enjoying the smooth strawberry creaminess every once and awhile taking a sip from her water bottle.

She would do whatever was expected of her, because anything was better then returning to how things were. For right now though, Lila was completely lost. She wasn't sure where anything was, or who anyone was. She had only been here about a week, so it was to be expect... but Lila felt the need to befriend at least someone. Or just, talk too. Have them help her out or something? So far she really liked this school, but the way it worked was a bit confusing. Lila continued walking, noticing a fountain in the distance.
She kept looking around taking in all of her surroundings. Lila noticed a person here and there watch her intently, which was strange... but she was in a new place. They just hadn't seen her before. Lila brushed a loose strand of hair that must have fallen out of her messy ponytail, behind her ear. Lila didn't put all that much thought into her appearance everyday. Her make-up was very light, and her clothes which were casual. One of her summer sun dresses, and sandals. She only got all dressed up for certain occasions, or outings. It was way to much work just to go from class to class. With her right hand, she grabbed her right wrist and held it, continuing to walk. Lila had no idea where she was going, she was just going. The weather was nice today, and eventually she would stop and talk to someone if they didn't look busy. Otherwise Lila wasn't certain of how to meet people. She knew that it couldn't all just be about making friends, and having fun. That wasn't even on her mind too much, but she'd need someone she could trust, and talk too, even if the talk wasn't about anything that mattered.
Lila soon reached the fountain, and stopped walking to take around look around. She scanned the area with her eyes, noticing a few people here and there. She brushed more hair out of her face, and always got that feeling of she didn't belong here. It was only because she was so new... she'd get used to the environment soon. Everything would be great, like she had imagined. Lila noticed a girl sitting by herself on the fountain. She didn't look entirely busy, but Lila was unsure if she wanted company or not. Especially company by someone she had no idea as to who they were. Lila wasn't very good at approaching people, but she needed to start too. For lack of better words, the girl looked almost perfect. Her hair was perfectly up, and Lila didn't notice a wrinkle in her clothes. Maybe that was how she was raised. Or just something she likes to do. Lila took a step forward toward her, then paused again.
The shy part of her wanted to decide against it, but she knew she needed to talk to at least a couple of people. Lila hadn't really spoken to many people within the week she was here. She took a deep breath and continued toward her. "Umm... Hi. I'm Lila. I'm new here... and I was kind of wondering if you could help me out? Show me around.. or something." Lila hoped she didn't sound like a complete idiot, but there was always that possibility. "If you're busy, I understand." Lila added, giving the girl a small smile. |

Effy continued to eat her yogurt. There was a small breeze which was really nice and helped cool down her skin. Effy dropped her gaze to a bird that picked at something on the ground nearby. She didnt make a move as she watched it. Something so simple about birds was intriguing. Effy wondered if she were to be an animal if thats what she would be. She knew the draw to birds that most people got and understood why they usually always chose birds to be. Wanting to fly and such. Effy wasnt so sure thats what she would want to do. Sure having the feeling of wind beneath your wings seemed so freeing, exciting, amazing, but thats all there was to being a bird and Effy wasnt so sure thats all she wanted her life to be.
There was a sound then that triggered the bird to fly off and Effy looked up to the approaching girl, her shoes making sound on the trail that led to the fountain. Her brow rose taking in the blond that stopped not far from her. At first she just kind of looked at her having not expected her to talk to her. Choice was, she wasnt usually the first choice for people to talk to. Then her words registered. She was new. She nodded a bit.. Hi.. lila.she added and then looked down at her yogurt cup which she realized was empty now. She turned to her bag and placed the empty yogurt cup in it rolling the bag so it was as small as it could get and then took a drink from her water.
She looked back up at her. Yes I can show you around. Im surprised they did not give you a tour when you first got here.she said as she stood up walking over towards the garbage can that was there and tossed the bag in it. She moved over to the girl holding her hand out. Im Effy.she told her. You're not in my group, I dont recognize your name. Have you been assigned yet?she asked looking straight at her. Effy checked her watch. She had the time to be able to give the girl a walk around. She knew what it was like to get lost and it wasnt the greatest feeling especially when you were new. It was good she found her actually because Effy knew there were some out there that were not nice enough to show her and in fact would probably mess her up on purpose. Then again the girl was pretty and most guys were more then happy to show a pretty face around.
NOTES: ugh sorry that sucked

If not, there were other people she could ask, but asking just one person was hard enough. The girl greeted her back, and Lila smiled. Lila watched what the girl was doing for a moment, before looking around again. She didn't want to come off as strange, right away, by staring. Lila felt a moment of relief when she agreed to show her around. "Thank you so much!" Lila knew eventually that she could figure out her way around, but who knows how long that would take. It would be much easier just to meet someone who already knew where everything was, and could show her. She told Lila that she was surprised they already didn't give her a tour, and Lila shrugged. They showed her some of the way around, like where she would be staying. Other then that... she didn't really know where to go. She had been walking around for about fifteen minutes know, trying to get to know the area. It hadn't really been working.
When she moved her hand out to greet and introduce herself, Lila did the same with a smile. "Nice to meet you, Effy." That was an interesting name, Lila kind of liked it. She had never heard of it before, though. She wondered if it was short for anything, but she wasn't about to go right ahead and ask. Maybe if Lila got to know her better she would... but it was possible Effy would show her around and Lila might not ever get to talk to her again. This school was pretty big, and Lila didn't think that they were in the same group. "Yeah, I have. I'm in Raven...." The groups confused her a bit, but they did make sense. Or, at least hers did to her. She didn't really know much about the other ones. Maybe it was assigned by age, or how smart you were. There was still a lot about this school that Lila needed to learn. "Um... How about you? What group are you in?" She remembered some of the names, but there was no way she would be able to just guess what group Effy was in.
Lila smoothed out her dress, the slight breeze was making it lean more in one direction. She enjoyed the weather though, Lila never lived right near the ocean before, it was beautiful. Everywhere she looked was beautiful. The ocean, the buildings, the trees. As well as some people that she had seen. Lila hoped that it wouldn't take her too long to fit in and figure things out. She wanted to be in full swing of everything that was going on around here, to make she she was doing well. Lila wanted to excel here, but first she needed to figure out just how to do that.

Effy nodded a bit as she thanked her. The girl seemed very nice and it made effy wonder what she was even doing here, then again there were several kids there that just didnt make sense for them to be there. Some times parents or even any of the other reasons that sent the kids here had some of the dumbest reasons. Effy tilted her head some as the girl shook her hand. yes.. nice to meet you too.her words were a little awkward almost like she was reading from a card that was hard to make out the words almost.
Effy was honestly a little surprised when lila said she was a raven. She didnt seem like the type of personality that would be in raven, then again Lila was still clueless to what this place was really about. Everyone had been clueless when they first got there and now once you were here you either went with it or well effy honestly didnt know what happened to those that went against the school. those that tried to leave. They were pretty strict about what got back and she couldnt imagine theyd let people just leave because they wanted to.
Im a cobra.she told her. Effy studied the girls movements and things she said inconspicuously of course. Looks can be very deceiving and effy knew this. What if this was all some ploy, there were a lot of people out there, girls especially that were able to put on a good show. Maybe the girl would be perfect for this place, not that effy was entirely agreeable to what was going on around here, but there wasnt much she could do about it and she didnt really see much for herself outside of the school anyway. Life outside of the school had become a place that didnt really welcome her anymore. Here she felt like she could rely on something. She had her feet solid on the ground and she knew what to expect for the most part.
Right now nothing was coming of the school and she hoped it would stay that way. She could sit in this limbo for a long time if needed, but she really wasnt sure she would want to go further. She wasnt sure that when the time came with what they were preparing them for that it wouldnt come to that.
We'll continue on this way. We have some really nice gardens and further down theres a practice field. she said. its at the way back, but its got so much. One of my favorite places.she said and then motioned for her to follow as she led her towards the gardens

Lila wasn't sure if she was shy... it kind of seemed like it, but then again it didn't. She didn't show too much emotion, if some at all. Lila hoped to catch just a glimmer of some type of expression on her face, but she hadn't yet. Maybe she was just really focused? Her words and the way she walked seemed a little stiff, like an actor who wasn't too good at acting. Lila felt like she was studying her too hard already, and that might seem a little bit weird. Effy was kind of alluring, in some odd way. The way she did things was usual. Like some kind of awesome robot. When Effy asked her what group she was in, Lila replied that she was in Raven. She still had to figure out what it all meant, it kind of reminded her of Harry Potter. All of the separate groups.. but she was pretty sure this school had more groups.
Effy told her that she was a cobra, and Effy smiled and nodded. She had obviously heard of that group, but didn't really know what it meant exactly. " Oh, cool." They had explained to her, and Lila understood the groups... but she wasn't positive on why it was needed. Maybe to separate people with others that were similar? Hopefully another week or two here and she would be settled in, and know exactly what was going on. It was a little scary wandering around here, having no clue what was going on and what she was supposed to do when. Lila then noticed that this time, it looked like Effy was studying her. Or... at least she thought she was. Lila wasn't very sure. It's a common thing to do when you are with someone you've never talked too before, so Lila assured herself it wasn't weird or anything. She was just doing it to Effy a while ago. Maybe it just reminded her of something she didn't really like, being checked out by middle aged men. Lila followed Effy to wherever she was taking her first. So far everything looked great, Lila would just prefer having her own little map in her head.
Lila looked back up from the trees, to Effy when she spoke up. Lila nodded at her words, almost anxious to see what Effy was talking about. Effy spoke of a practice field, and Lila assumed that it was probably for sports and such. She continued to follow the brunette, her walking relaxed yet cautious. She made sure not to trip over any objects, or her own feet, but her movements weren't quite as stiff as the girl's next to her. Effy continued speaking, and admitted that it was one of her favorite places. "Sounds interesting... this place is really beautiful." Lila told her, smiling a bit at her. For some strange reason Lila kind of wanted Effy to smile at least once as well.

Effy looked at her a bit then gave a short nod. Yeah. cool. she tapped her finger on her water bottle and then looked down at it before taking her attention back to lila. She held the water bottle out. would you like some?she asked. Effy wasnt sure about peoples take on sharing, Effy honestly didnt care. Sure she probably wouldnt take from someone else and if Lila wanted some of her water she would just let her have the rest of it, but they would be walking a bit and she figured the girl probably hadnt had anything to drink not knowing the length of the walk she was going to go on. The school did have water fountains around it, but it had that tinny taste like pipes. Effy only used them when she absolutely needed to otherwise she usualy always drank from a bottle.
Effy had to admit that as she studied the girl, the thing that stood out the most about her, was her eyes. They were a very hypnotic blue. It fit the girl really. She honestly could have seen her with either that or the same intensity but in green.. maybe even purple had that been a real eye color. Anything outside of those though, just didnt match she didnt think. She moved her eyes away from Lilas, not wanting her to get some kind of weird impression of her. Your eyes are beautiful. she told her as if she had just said, the grass is green and the sky is blue. It was a factual comment.
As they walked through the gardens she took in the sight. It really was something to look at and from the look and comment from Lila she knew she was impressed by it. They actually seemed to really take care of the grounds of this place, and the garden especially. They have different flowers in the different seasons.she said. Its a good place to just.. relax in.. unless you are allergic, then I wouldnt suggest it.she told her. theres several benches and theyve even gotten a swing on that large tree over there.she said pointing towards it.
Come on then.. its a bit more of a walk but the practice area is this way. she told her. Effy nodded when she said interesting. the building she led her to was surrounded by a barbed wire fence. There were seats along the edge of the practice feild for people to sit and watch and vending machines at the openings that carried water. If you need a weapon you need to ask a staff member to open the rack for you.she informed her, though she looked at her when she mentioned weapons. She had a feeling this girl had no idea what kind of place this really was yet and if the barbed wire fence didnt tip her off for it being weird then the mention of weapons might. Its so students can practice during any kind of weather. she informed.

Lila looked back over at Effy when she heard her voice again. She noticed the water bottle being offered too her, and the words that Effy had said registered. Lila gave her a soft smile and shook her head. "Oh, no thank you." She wasn't very thirsty, but it was very nice of Effy to offer, since Lila was basically a stranger. Lila didn't really worry about sharing things with people, obviously Effy didn't either. Honestly, Lila was still trying to figure her out. She doubt that she would do it, it would probably take a long time and who knows if they'd ever talk again after this. Usually you could tell a few things about a person within the first ten minutes you talk to them. Lila hadn't really gotten much about Effy. Then again, Lila wasn't exactly the best people person out there. Maybe here, things would change. She continued to follow Effy, to wherever she was taking her next. She took a good look around, creating somewhat of a map in her head.
Lila glanced over at Effy again, when it appeared that she had looked away. Effy told her that she had beautiful eyes, and Lila blushed a bit. Effy said it in an almost... factual way. Like it wasn't an opinion of hers, it was a true statement. She would probably have to get used to Effy's way of speaking... if she were to talk to her a few more times after this. "Wow... thank you." Lila smiled gently, looking down at her feet as she walked. That was probably one of the few compliments she heard in a while that she actually liked. Lila wanted to give a compliment back, but she thought that it might have been sort of odd to do so. She decided against herself, and spoke up. "Yours are pretty too... they look like they're different colors?" One looked a little greener then the other, and if she was right... that would be a very interesting trait to have. Different colored eyes.
Lila followed Effy into the gardens, and she could smell the flowers right away. All of the different colors mingling together, it was really beautiful. This place was just getting better and better. She followed Effy's direction to the swing she pointed out. Lila smiled and nodded, taking another quick look around the garden. It looked exactly how Effy described it. Perfect to just come in here and relax. Lila nodded again, and caught up to Effy as she began walking to the practice area. Lila was still expecting a football field or something. It wasn't though... it was a large area, surrounded with barbed wire fence. "What's the... barbed wire for?" That was.... strange. Effy explained that if she needed a weapon she would need to get a staff member. What would she need a weapon for? Lila wasn't really into sword fighting, if that was a big thing here. Everything suddenly got... unusual. "What is this place, exactly?" It looked more like a training ground for an army, then a school.

Effy pulled her hand back. Okay. she said. It wasnt a big deal that she had turned it down. effy hadnt honestly been expecting it. Effy wasnt the type to seek people out unless she needed to, she honestly didnt know if they would run into each other again but even though the school was so big, it could also be very small. It was very possible to run into her again and Effy wouldnt mind either way to be honest. She didnt have a preference especially right now when she just met the girl. She knew that she wouldnt not be able to meet people that would befriend her, so honestly the girl really didnt need to worry about that.
Effy mm'd when she thanked her for the comment. Effy was not expecting her to comment back, though she should have seen it coming. It was human nature to compliment back once given a compliment at least it was true for a big percent of the time. Some people didnt which was kind of interesting to Effy because usually people will get weird when given a compliment back, while others would get offended if the person just said thank you and left it at that. Effy was the type that didnt look for compliments or need them back. It was nice of lila to have said so, but she wasnt so sure what she said was true. Effy had once been the girl that would take the compliments with a smile and a nice thank you. She probably would have complimented back. She was the type that would have known if her eyes were different colors or not. But those days were long gone and shed been like this far too long that her past almost seemed like a dream. Like it had been someone else and not her.
Effy took another drink before recapping it and glancing at lila. You dont have to say anything back.she told her. She wasnt meaning to be rude by that. She just didnt want Lila to feel like she had to make a compliment back because of hers. When Lila started asking her about the barbed wire and the weapons she turned towards her fully and motioned for her to follow her back towards the school. This isnt your average school.she told her. Its more of a training school. she added. Effy didnt offer anymore information after that.
Do you like to read? she asked her. Or looking things up? Effy opened the doors for them to allow her to go in.

She was still trying to figure Effy out, and she kind of felt bad. She had barely just met the girl, what... fifteen minutes ago? Effy was just... more interesting then most people. If she ever talked to Effy again after this, maybe she would figure her out along the way. Today was nothing more then a tour. Lila kept her curious eyes wandering as they walked around the school. It was such a large school. Effy's compliment caught her off guard, but she was very flattered. It was nice hearing a compliment once in a while, one that you actually wanted to hear. Lila returned a compliment back to her, about Effy's eyes also. It may have just been the light that caused one of her eyes too look a little greener then the other. Or it could just be her imagination. Either way, she had a pretty eye color as well.
Effy told her that she didn't need to compliment her back, and Lila smiled a little bit at the floor. "Oh... yeah. Well, I kind of wanted too." She managed to get out. Lila didn't usually like saying thank you for a compliment and that was it. It felt kind of unfinished, in a way. Lila preferred to comment back with a compliment, and well, Effy had a lot of things you could compliment. This 'training area' Effy showed Lila had been a little off setting... it was very strange. The barb wire, and the mention of weapons. Seemed like something an army would have. She looked back up at Effy when she motioned for her to follow, and Lila did. Effy explained to her that this wasn't her average school... and Lila didn't say anything, waiting for further explanation. She didn't really know what to say to that actually. Effy cleared it up a little, but not much, by telling her it was more of a training school. "I see.. Like some kind of army?" That's what the training area kind of reminded her of.
Effy didn't seem to explain any further, which made this school even more of a mystery. Lila didn't really care to be honest. If she was in some sort of army, so be it. That sounded a lot better then going back to wherever home was and being there. She kind of wanted more of an idea... but if she had to figure that out for herself, then that is what she would do. Effy changed the topic on her by asking if she liked to read, and look things up. Lila nodded, and followed her through the doors into the building.. "Yeah.. I like to read and research. I don't get to do it very often." That was another thing she hoped would change here.

Effy glanced at her over her shoulder when she asked if it was like an army. She gave a small nod. A bit like that. she told her. Effy remembered when her parents had sent her here. They thought they were going to be getting their little girl back, someone that her mother could talk into going back into pageants. When they did the tour they showed all except for the questioning places so her parents didnt realize that the minute they left and they closed the doors behind them, that they pretty much put Effy in a place she would never be able to get away from.
Once you were here, you never left. She was aware they checked their letters and listened into their phone calls. They had to make sure that nothing was being leaked. Effy was starting to wonder if this was like another area 51. On top of that the truth behind the place. What they were training the kids to be here. Killers. Effy didnt exactly see herself as a killer and so far the time shes been here other then being put up against other groups they havent sent anyone out to do any actual fighting. She hoped it stayed that way. Effy enjoyed the practicing though and the practice battles. She liked everything about this place except for the real part of it. The killing part of it.
She looked at the girl studying her. This was definitely not the place for her, then again maybe she was misjudging her. More then half of the kids here didnt belong here Effy thought. Maybe Lila would surprise her. After all she didnt quite know her all that well yet. She just seemed really nice and out of place here. Effy crossed her arms over her chest. What do you feel about battles? she asked. Do you think you would be able to fight against people? she asked. She wanted to know a little on what she felt about that kind of thing.
When Lila said she liked to read and research but didnt have much time to do so, effy turned them into the library. It was an impressive library. Well this place is always open to you and you always have time at some point to come here. You're more then welcome to make use of it. she informed her. They have everything here and if you need help there are a couple of librarians of course.she said. Do you know where your bunk room is? she asked.

Lila was a pretty curious person, but she wasn't the one for prying. She figured either she'd find things out along the way, or she would be told. Lila nodded a bit, making a small hmm noise. This school... army, whatever it was, it was interesting. Lila wondered what it was for exactly... it couldn't be for war. Not any war she has heard about anyway. She followed Effy from place to place, taking everything in and making sure that she remembered it later. It was all such a new experience, and even though it was nerve wracking, Lila enjoyed being here right now. She figured it would only get better as she got more familiar with everything, so it wasn't as foreign as it was currently. Things would maybe end up being less scary if she got used to the surroundings. It was hard to read Effy, if it was even possible. Lila wondered if she enjoyed it here... but maybe that was a question for another time. If there was another time.
Lila looked over at Effy, listening to her question. She didn't take too much of a thought before answering. It was an easy question for her. "I think of it more as survival, I guess. If it's a me or them situation... then I wouldn't have a problem." Lila nodded. If she was being attacked and had a chance to fight back and survive, of course she would take it. Life is a constant battle if you think about it. "I wouldn't want to hurt anyone otherwise, though." Only in self defense, would that happen. Lila was a pretty gentle person, she didn't even like arguing that much. She was also wondering why Effy would ask that question... it obviously tied into the 'army' part of the school, as well as that training ground area with weapons accessible. Maybe it was some kind of class? Optional, hopefully... but you never know.
Effy lead her into the Library, and Lila gave a small smile at the place. It was huge, and very well put together, just like the rest of the school. Lila would probably be spending a lot of her time here. "Amazing..." She spoke softly, a light smile still on her face. There was a small library, if you could even call it that, down the road from where she lived previous. Lila spent all the time she could there, but it was never much. Lila turned to Effy and nodded, "Yeah... that's probably the only place I knew before you helped me out." Lila said with a quiet laugh. It was really nice of Effy to help her out, and Lila hoped that she would see more of Effy. They were in different groups, so maybe that would be hard to do, but who knows. She'd have to get used to the schedule, and now that she had the layout of the school for the most part, down, maybe it would get easier.
sorry this took forever & a day! |
